Our Club was a recent recipient of a brand-new, state-of-the-art printer donated by Hewlett-Packard Company. Through its Global Social Investment organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of America was selected to receive a total of 105 HP Color LaserJet 9500hdn printers (estimated value of $8,000/each). BGCA, in turn, identified 105 Club organizations (yay! we made the cut) that had the capacity and need for such a high-production printer. This printer will allow our Club to print high-quality materials that we would have otherwise had to pay an outside service to produce. This will result in a great cost savings to our organization. A big thanks to HP for their support of our Club and its mission in serving youth! Boys & Girls Club of La Quinta UNVEILING CEREMONY Friday, February 15, 2008 On April 13, 2007, the Boys & Girls Club in La Quinta was named after President Gerald R. Ford. We were honored to have former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, speak at the ceremony.
Following that naming event, Leo Wyler - our long-time supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Coachella Valley - gave a gift to commission a bronze bust of President Ford to be installed at the front of the newly-named clubhouse. In doing so, Mr. Wyler keeps alive the spirit and vision of President Ford and honors him for the support he has given the children of the Coachella Valley.
About the Sculptor… Artist J Brett Grill was commissioned by the Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley to sculpt a bronze bust of President Ford in fall of 2007. Currently an assistant professor of drawing and painting at the University of Missouri, his stellar background includes graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Michigan in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and in 2003 receiving his Master in Fine Arts Cum Laude in Drawing and Painting from the New York Academy of Art. Mr. Grill has apprenticed and studied internationally and has received awards in a number of juried shows. Mr. Grill grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which was also the childhood home of President Ford and is now the location of the Gerald R. Ford Museum. We are proud to showcase this up-and-coming young artist’s work with his extraordinary sculpture of President Gerald R. Ford.
